Why Managers Don’t Collaborate - Revealing the Myths and Truths: Notice of our upcoming book

Our last book (Implementing and Managing Collaborative Relationships: A Practical Guide for Managers) provided a step-by-step guide on how to identify strategic opportunities and to apply effective collaborative management. It was also useful as a training manual.

Our latest book which is backed by our extensive research describes what is actually happening out there in a wide variety of public and private sector organisations. Many managers have told us repeatedly that they follow the collaborative path and implemented programmes such as Vendor/Supplier/Customer Relationship Management, yet they complain that they are still fire-fighting. Taking a deeper look beneath the surface, we have found that this is collaboration in name only and reality nothing has changed. So why is this we ask?

We face off against the myths behind this gung-ho hype that has patently failed in the vast majority of alliance cases to achieve the full extent of the potential returns such as improved revenues, reduced costs, greater market share, access to specialized know-how and increased resilience in difficult economic conditions. We take the lid off the spurious reasons that managers give for their misdirected actions and we steer a path through the confusion. We provide clear direction on avoiding the pitfalls from poor implementation of collaborative working resulting from these false beliefs and, how to adopt a professional approach to successful collaborative working.

Why Managers Don't Collaborate: Revealing the Myths and Truths is due to be published by Routledge on 16 April 2026. Details including Table of Contents, Authors Details and Reviews can be found in this link. The book can be pre-booked from 26 March.
